Factory Restore

From time to time you may need to restore a SNAPconnect E12 to the factory default state.

Restoring from a microSD Card

Download image

Download the newest microSD card SNAPconnect E12 installer image.

Write new image to a microSD card

Windows

Using an application such as Win32DiskImager, program the microSD card with the downloaded image.

Linux/macOS

Use dd from the command line, where if is the sdcard image file and of is the device location of the microSD card device. For example:

$ dd if=e12-VERSION-sdcard.img of=/dev/sdX bs=1M

$ sync
$ eject /dev/sdX

Warning

Ensure that the of variable points to the correct microSD card device location before executing this command.

Remove the cover from the E12

Remove power and remove the cover from the E12. Use proper ESD strategies while touching the bare E12 board.

Insert microSD

Insert the microSD card into the microSD card slot.

Use microSD to restore E12

The button used to restore the E12 is on the PCB, and is not the externally accessible button near the microSD card slot. If the E12 is oriented such that the microSD slot is in the bottom-right corner, the SNAP RF module is to the top-right, and the USB-A port is in the top-left corner, the button to hold to boot from the microSD card is at the top, just left of top center.

  • Hold the button on the top of the PCB. (not the button near the microSD card slot)

  • Apply power.

  • Continue holding the button until the 4 LEDs (marked 1-4 on the cover) at the bottom of the PCB start to cycle (not the user LED near the antenna), this will take 15-20 seconds.

  • Release the button after the 4 LEDs have started to cycle.

If the LEDs do not start to cycle after 30 seconds, remove power and try again. (You may need to use a fingernail or small blunt instrument to fully depress the button.)

After about five minutes (your time may vary depending on factors such as the speed of your microSD card), the LEDs will turn green, indicating that the process is complete. Finally, disconnect power from the device, remove the microSD card, reassemble the E12.

Your SNAPconnect E12 is now restored and ready to use.
